Why Metro? We’re a small church with a big vision in the city. As a “nimble” church movement, we realize the power of authentic relationship with God and others. The hope that comes with knowing others and being known. The wonder of being a part of a diverse family that is always looking to welcome others. Whether you’re coming to church to participate, or simply remain anonymous, we extend a warm welcome to you.
Mission: A community of hope in New York City that radically lives, performs and proclaims ‘The Way’ of Jesus Christ.
What is the the way/good news of Christ: The gospel is the work of God to restore humans to union with God and communion with others, in the context of community, for the good of others and the world. (Scot McKnight, Embracing Grace).
Core Values (MC4): 1. Christ: God’s Perfect Love for the World, 2. Call: Living as a response to God’s grace, 3. Community: Loving God & Others Wholly, 4. Concern: Participating with God in the Renewal of the World.
Vision: Metro Hope will witness a people restored to union with God, transformed by rhythms of grace experienced in radical community, with neighborhoods woven together by the shalom of Jesus Christ, leading to spiritual renewal in the personal, social, economic and cultural fabric of New York City and beyond.
Attending Metro has completely revolutionized my life, as I still blame Pastors Jose and Mayra for the fact that my tithe contribution has considerably dwindled. (For those that know that it was the messages on Sunday and the encouragement from Metro that served as the final push I needed to get off the Corporate America Lawyer bus to follow my dream to build Pathfinders, you will giggle here.)
This church truly is a rare gem; a small but powerful space that is leaving a large footprint beyond Harlem. I am honored to serve as the coordinator for the Worship Team and as the tallest and only African Lead Worshipper on the Sundays I lead us in worship. I also participate in the Spiritual Formation team, which is a privilege. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Raynah and I love what this church represents, love the leadership and genuinely love you!
I joined the Metro Hope ministry in 2008. Metro has shown me the importance of engaging the community from a place of love, modeled after the example of Christ. Nothing compares to the love expressed to us when Christ died on the cross of calvary to cleanse of our sins. It is my duty to serve faithfully and prayerfully with the same level of compassion and commitment shown to me.
I’ve been attending Metro consistently since Sept 2009. Suzi and I had just started dating at the time, and well, a lot’s happened in our lives since. Through dating, engagement, marriage and parenthood – twice – and no less than three jobs changes, Metro has been a place of support, connection and challenge and a place where we’ve met Jesus…individually and with/through others. I love the idea of supporting the Metro community and furthering its mission by serving on the Board.
I have been attending Metro Hope church since 2012. Being born and raised in El Barrio my passion has always been to serve my community by giving of my time and skills where it’s best suited to serve those in need.
I have been a part of the Metro family since 2012. I have served as a Hope Kids teacher for over a year, assisted coordinating Hope Kids for a few months in 2013, and currently serve on Metro’s media team. I’m also a teacher and an active part of my community in the South Bronx.
I have been with Metro since day one. My heart is to share the Love of Christ through any means necessary. Metro is more than a church to me and my wife but more of a refuge. My desire is to walk along side Metro and my Pastors and give back in any way possible. I am humbled to be a part of Metro Hope’s very first board of leaders. Many blessings!
I have loved Metro Hope Church since the beginning. I’ve been a member since 2008. What I most cherish about my church family is the holistic effort to spiritually nourish the whole person through family life, work life, community, as well as the life of the mind through the gospel of Christ. Jose and Mayra are family to me. My kids love it at Metro, and I would love for other families with children to have this same experience. I enjoy helping with our children’s ministry when possible, and I’m committed every day to the growth and health of Metro Hope.
